Discover Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Zanzibar!
Accompanied by your guide, you will set out to discover the historic heart of Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In addition to its street décor, which reflects Swahili, Indian, Arab and European influences, this district is of historical importance. Stone Town was home to one of the world's last slave markets.
You will be picked up from your hotel and driven to the centre of Stone Town to begin your tour. You will meet your guide in front of the main market, which sells vegetables, exotic fruits, fish and spices. During your walking tour, you will discover the following sites:
- Christ Church Anglican Cathedral, which was built by Bishop Steers in 1873 on the site where slaves were auctioned.
- The People's Palace Museum - built in the late 1890s for members of the Sultan's family.
- House of Wonders - built in 1883 as a palace for royal ceremonial functions.
- Africa House - formerly the English Club.
- Forodhani Gardens - Where you can spend your evenings quietly watching the dazzling sunset while sipping freshly squeezed sugarcane juice or enjoying charcoal barbecues and local dishes.
