Immerse yourself in the world of The Lord of the Rings and discover the studios and a number of film sights used for the cult trilogy!
Spend the morning exploring different locations in Wellington, Mount Victoria and the “Green Belt” that were used during the filming of Tolkien’s work. You will also enjoy a 40 minute stroll in the Outer Shire Woods where a number of scenes were filmed.
After this, make your way to the Weta production studios to discover Wellington’s cinematographic industry and the production studios of the various Lord of the Rings movies. The visit of the studios will also include the latest exhibit “Window into Workshop” revealing the daily operations of the studios and the production company during the filming of the trilogy and the Hobbit. Watch a short-movie on the immense digital technology work that helped with the film's special effects. In addition, you will also have access to the cave-museum.
A break will take place for lunch at the Scorch-o-Rama café where a Lord of the Rings meal will be prepared for the occasion!
Continue the day by discovering other film sights in Hutt Valley and making a stop on the banks of Hutt River (the River Anduin) and Harcourt Park (Gardens of Isengard). Finally, you will also visit Kaitoke Regional Park and its ancient forest that was used as a backdrop for Rivendell, the Elven city. You will also see the sites used for Helm’s Deep and the fortified city of Minas Tirith, the capital of Gondor.
