Description

The Newseum is a huge museum, spread over 7 floors. But fear not – armed with your ticket which is valid for 2 days, you will be able to take all the time necessary to discover the many treasures on show!

  • On the ground floor, explore a gallery devoted to the FBI, where numerous objects used during past operations (such as weapons, spying equipment etc.) are on show. You will find yourself stood before 8 original sections of the Berlin Wall, and even have the opportunity to climb the three storeys of a guard tour which was previously erected in East Germany.

  • On the 1st floor, you will be able to see the biggest collection of Pulitzer prize-winning photographs ever assembled in one room. These unique photos will move you with the stories they show. You will then be able to enjoy 'I-Witness', an interactive 4D film telling the story of journalism.

  • The 2nd floor will immerse you in the world of televised news, as you have the opportunity to record your own news bulletin using cameras and teleprompters. You will test your knowledge with numerous games and learn how news stories are prepared each day.

  • On the 3rd floor, you will get a glimpse of the life of top international reporters, whilst seeing many objects used by war-correspondents in particular.

  • Get involved on the 4th floor and create your own headline from the current news stories! You will then move on to explore a gallery devoted to September 11th, where you will be able to see 127 headlines published on September 12th 2001, as well as some debris collected from the site of the attacks. Also present on this floor is a gallery dedicated to the First Amendment of the American Constitution (freedom of expression).

  • The 5th floor displays the greatest headlines from history, as published in the newpapers of the time. Here, you can take in the coverage of high profile events, such as the sinking of the Titanic, the Watergate scandal, and the fall of the Berlin wall.

  • The 6th and final floor of the museum gives you the opportunity to stroll along a terrace specially built to give the best possible view over Capitol Hill and the National Mall.

Many other surprises await you during this unforgettable experience!
