Discover Kairouan and El Jem on a cultural excursion from your hotel in Hammamet!
You'll be picked up directly from your accommodation in Hammamet, then set off for Kairouan, one of Islam's holy cities and a jewel of Tunisia's heritage. Throughout the day, you'll be accompanied by a driver who will take you to each site.
You'll begin your tour with the 9th-century Aghlabid basins, impressive hydraulic structures that bear witness to the skills of medieval Arab engineers. From the tourist information center, you'll enjoy a panoramic view of the city's emblematic monuments.
You'll then proceed to the Great Okba Mosque, founded in the 7th century and considered the oldest mosque in North Africa. You'll discover its majestic architecture marked by the influences of several eras.
The visit will continue to the mausoleum of Sidi Sahbi, also known as the Prophet's Barber. This religious complex, adorned with turquoise earthenware and delicate stucco, is a remarkable example of Islamic architecture between the 17th and 19th centuries.

In the early afternoon, you'll visit the Roman amphitheater of El Jem, the third largest in the world after those in Rome and Capua. Built in the 3rd century, this impressive edifice could accommodate up to 35,000 spectators. You'll explore this UNESCO World Heritage-listed archaeological site.
