***IMPORTANT: Due to the high activity levels seen in Etna since the beginning of 2021, it is no longer possible to access its summit. A current Italian government order prohibits climbing above 2750 metres***
Trek to the top of Mount Etna, Europe's highest and most active volcano, and enjoy breathtaking views of Sicily!
You'll be picked up from your hotel and set off in the direction of Etna National Park. Once you arrive at the Sapienza refuge, you'll board a cable car and arrive at an altitude of 2500 metres. You'll continue your ascent of the volcano by shuttle and enjoy the view at 2950 metres: a breathtaking magical landscape to behold!
With your volcanologist guide by your side, you'll then begin the approximately 3-hour hike (400-metre elevation gain) to the top of Etna's north-east crater. This is the highest point in the park at 3345 metres altitude. You'll get to see the smoking crater of Europe's highest active volcano right up close.
After enjoying the panoramic views, you'll head back down to 3000 metres for a picnic lunch. When you hit 2500 metres, you'll take the cable car down to 2000 metres.
In the afternoon, you'll explore a volcanic cave. Your guide will provide you with the necessary equipment to explore the depths of the volcano in complete safety. You'll have the opportunity to learn more about caving and volcanic eruptions.
Throughout your hike, you'll enjoy the great views and getting plenty of information from your guide.
Once the tour is over, you'll be driven back to your hotel in Catania.
