Description

Step back in time and plunge into the heart of the Roman Empire with a visit to the Colosseum, the Forum and the Palatine hill, with commentary from your audioguide!

Your ticket gives you easy access to the Colosseum, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World.

A veritable colossus, it is the largest amphitheatre in the world, with a capacity of over 50,000 spectators. It takes its name from a statue of the emperor Nero, the Colossus, which once stood at its entrance. Today, the Colosseum is Rome's most emblematic monument and has become its symbol.

Built in the year 72 during the reigns of the emperors Vespasian and Titus, it was an entertainment venue that hosted gladiator fights, re-enactments of naval battles and more. During your visit to the Colosseum, you'll discover how it functioned as an amphitheatre, and admire the structure and underground passageways that concealed the animals and fighters before they took to the stage. Although the arena and stands have not withstood the test of time, the Colosseum is one of Rome's best-preserved monuments today.

After visiting the Colosseum, you can go on to the Roman Forum, an archaeological site that was the centre of Roman public life for almost 1,000 years. It housed the city's and the Empire's command buildings, and was the venue for festivals, weddings and gatherings. It was a central place in the life of the Romans, the heart of the social and political life of Ancient Rome.

Finally, head for the Palatine, Rome's most famous hill! Rome is said to have been founded here by Remus and Romulus in the 7th century BC. It was the holiday resort of many emperors. Today, the city's oldest ancient remains can be found here, including the ruins of numerous imperial palaces and large aristocratic villas.

Take advantage of the information and comments on your visit thanks to the audioguide, available via a mobile app, included in your booking.

Thanks to this self-guided tour, you'll have no more secrets about ancient Rome!
