This transport pass means you can escape the hustle and bustle of the Japanese capital and head to the calmer natural climes of the Hakone region.

This region is famous for its refreshing, soothing onsen (volcanic hot springs), the market town of Hakone, which is around 2 hours from Tokyo, lush landscapes, amazing views and a wealth of tourist activities. It's an ideal trip if you fancy a varied holiday and want to explore a more rural Japan.
Setting off from Shinjuku station in Tokyo, you can tour this lush, calm region for 2 or 3 consecutive days.

This pass gives you unlimited access to 8 transport networks:

  • the Odakyu train line between Shinjuku and Odawara
  • the Hakone Tozan train
  • the Hakone Tozan funicular railway
  • the Hakone cable car
  • the Ashi Lake cruise
  • the Hakone Tozan buses (part of the network)
  • the Odakyu Hakone buses(part of the network)
  • the Tokai buses (part of the network)
  • the Kanko Shisetsu-Meguri buses

As well as convenient and unlimited transport, the Hakone Free Pass gets you cheaper rates at 70 places around Hakone, including hot springs, restaurants, temples and museums.

When you book, you'll be asked to choose the duration of your pass:
- Hakone Free Pass 2 consecutive days
- Hakone Free Pass 3 consecutive days

Good to know

  • Availability: every day (except under exceptional circumstances)
  • Departure from: Shinjuku station in Tokyo - more information is in your voucher
  • Pass validity: 2 or 3 consecutive days
  • The Hakone Free Pass is only valid on the specified network, and cannot be used on other rail networks (Japan Railways, the metro network, etc.)
  • You'll be asked to select a date when booking. The voucher is valid for 6 months from the booking date, and must be exchanged for the pass on the spot
  • A QR code will be provided in your exchange voucher: go to the station noted on your exchange voucher and present the QR code at the ticket office or scan it in at a ticket machine to exchange it for a paper ticket. Only the paper ticket provided at the station can be used to board the transport used
  • The exchange voucher is for personal use and is non-transferable. When booking, please enter the name of each passenger as it appears on their passport
  • The duration of the pass is counted in calendar days, not 24-hour periods
  • Passes that are exchanged and not used and/or lost will not be refunded or reissued
  • The pass is valid only once and its first use constitutes the start of the chosen period of use
  • Please keep your passport on you when travelling with the pass. Train conductors may check your identity
  • You'll need to purchase an additional ticket if you are travelling in areas not covered by the pass
  • An additional ticket is required to take the Romance Car express train between Tokyo and Odawara
