Spend a day in Kyoto with a private guide and discover its most famous landmarks!
Kyoto was Japan's imperial capital from 794 to 1868, and today remains the country's cultural heart with its numerous temples, shrines and traditional gardens.
After meeting your private guide at Kyoto station, you'll head to the west of the city and visit Kinkakuji Temple, also known as the Golden Pavilion. The top two floors of this famous UNESCO-listed temple are entirely covered in gold leaf.
Afterwards, you'll head east across Kyoto to Higashiyama, one of the city's best-preserved districts, famous for its many temples. The district is known for its sloping streets lined with traditional houses that are now shops and restaurants. You'll stroll along Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka, two of Higashiyama's most famous streets, and admire the Yasaka Koshindo temple along the way. You'll then stop for an hour's lunch (not included, at your own expense).
After lunch, you'll visit the Kiyomizu-dera Temple, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built into the side of a hill, this Buddhist complex has an incredible wooden building with a breathtaking view of the city.
You'll then hop on a local train to Fushimi Inari to visit its eponymous temple. Fushimi Inari Taisha is dedicated to the deity Inari and is one of Japan's most famous landmarks. Step into another world as you walk through its red torii gates - the shrine is said to have around 10,000 of them!
At the end of the tour, you'll take the train to Kyoto station.
