Relive the highlights of World War II by visiting the various historic sites of the Pearl Harbor National Memorial!
Pearl Harbor is the name of a bay on Oahu, the most populous island in the Hawaiian archipelago, located west of Honolulu. It is one of the most important U.S. naval bases. It became famous when Japanese aircraft attacked the USS Arizona during the Second World War in 1941. The attack triggered the United States' entry into combat. The Pearl Harbor National Memorial was created to pay tribute to the 1,177 American soldiers who perished in the bombing, and to honor the thousands who served and continue to serve their country. The memorial is made up of various sites and monuments open to the public.
You'll be picked up from your hotel in Waikiki and set off with your guide in the direction of Pearl Harbor Bay. During your day, you'll have the chance to explore all the historic sites of the Pearl Harbor National Memorial.
On the program:
- USS Arizona Memorial, a memorial built over the battleship USS Arizona bombed on December 7, 1941. The ship is the final resting place of many officers and crew. You'll climb aboard a U.S. Navy ship and walk the memorial grounds.
- The battleship USS Missouri, the warship that fought valiantly in the battle and on which Japan's surrender deeds were signed, marking the end of the Second World War. You'll walk in the footsteps of General Douglas MacArthur, Admiral Chester Nimitz and the officers of the Allied Powers in 1945.
- The submarine USS Bowfin, a submersible ship that played an epic role in the battles of the Pacific. You'll enjoy an audio-guided tour through the heart of the ship.
- The Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum, housed in two World War I hangars. Stroll through the aisles and observe the impressive warplanes. Stop at the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum observation deck.
- The Pearl Harbor Visitor Center where you can view film footage of the attack, see historical exhibits and get a general overview of World War II in the heart of the Pacific and around the world.
After filling up on historical information and anecdotes, you'll be escorted back to your accommodation in Waikiki.
