Leaving directly from your hotel in Brussels, set off to visit the city of Ghent and discover its buildings, canals and museums!
You will travel to Ghent by private car, giving you the chance to discuss the itinerary for the day with your guide.
When you arrive, the excursion starts with a walking tour in the historic centre of Ghent. Explore the picturesque streets of the Graslei and Korenlei, which run along the banks of the River Leie, and discover the city’s main monuments and historic sites, including:
- Saint Nicholas’ Church
- Saint Bavo’s Cathedral
- The Korenmarkt
- The Vrijdagsmarkt (Friday Market)
- The Folklore Museum
- The Gravensteen
And much more!
Your guide will share numerous anecdotes with you about the history of Ghent and Flanders. Highlights include the Belfry, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Ghent Altarpiece or Adoration of the Mystic Lamb, which is housed in The Saint Bavo's Cathedral.
You will then go on a cruise on the canals in Ghent.
Once you have returned to dry land, you'll have a free time for lunch.
After lunch, you will leave the city centre and travel by boat to the MSK Museum of Fine Arts and the SMAK Museum of Contemporary Art. These two sites house numerous works by Flemish painters like Hieronymus Bosch, Rubens, Ensor or Magritte.
At the end of the afternoon you will leave Ghent to return to Brussels by car.
