Enjoy a two day trip to Chengde, situated north-east of Beijing!
Your guide will pick you up directly from your hotel and you will head to Beijing Station to catch the train to Chengde.
When you arrive, you will have lunch in a traditional restaurant before setting off for the Chengde Mountain Resort. Explore this ancient imperial complex, once used as a summer residence by the Qing emperors. Constructed during the 18th century, the Chengde Mountain Resort was a refuge for the Chinese emperors wanting to escape Beijing's summer heat. Your guide will take you on a two hour tour of the complex where you can admire the residences, the lakes and the intriguing curiosities that allowed the resort to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
You will spend the evening in your hotel in the heart of Chengde.
Your second day will begin with a visit to Putuo Zongcheng Temple. This Buddhist temple,located near the Chengde Mountain Resort, is modelled on the Potala Palace in Tibet. Your guide will take you on a two hour tour around the temple, before accompanying you to the Puning Temple.
As you explore Puning Temple, commonly known as Big Buddha Temple, you will have the opportunity to admire not only the interior of this Tibetan Buddhist temple, but also the largest wooden Bodhisattva in the world!
There will be time for lunch in a local restaurant before catching the train back to Beijing and returning to your hotel at the end of the day.
